Home Thoughts, From Abroad

by: Robert Browning (1812-1889)

Oh, to be in England

Now that April's there,

And whoever wakes in England

Sees, some morning, unaware,

That the lowest boughs and the brushwood sheaf

Round the elm-tree bole are in tiny leaf,

While the chaffinch sings on the orchard bough

In England—now!

And after April, when May follows,

And the white-throat builds, and all the swallows!

Hark I where my blossomed pear tree in the hedge

Leans to the field and scatters on the clover

Blossoms and dewdrops—at the bent spray's edge—

That's the wise thrush; he sings each song twice over,

Lest you should think he never could recapture

The first fine careless rapture!

And though the fields look rough with hoary dew,

All will be gay when noontide wakes anew

The buttercups, the little children's dower

—Far brighter than this gaudy melon-flower!

The Drop

Holding on to dreams, looking for themes.

Trying to cope, tightening my grip on hope.

A hair's breadth from despair, why should I care? Don’t you dare!

Dangling above a sea of truth, with it went my youth.

My tears so salty now, forgetting the why’s and how.

Scared and alone but still a fighter, yet my burden is no lighter.

Now would be the time to pray, but what would I say?

I don’t recognise me, maybe I need setting free.

I can relate to that concept...still lashed to what is on this side of everything gone wrong, a moment before something must change...a moment that feels like a forever where I can't even recognize myself in me.

Exhalations (penned)

When poetry, literature, is this good and free to us as members of VR you need to seize opportunities and read and indulge and get fat on quality, diversity and sheer brilliance.

I often begin to type a comment when reading her work but then delete as I feel no comment could possibly do this member justice.

If her journal is not among your favourites you should at least take a journey through what she has written and see for yourself why I feel it should be.

This is her latest work: Now I Long For Yesterday
